What is actually fixed
Most planning deadlines are convention. Two are not.
Knowing the difference is what lets you be relaxed about the right things.

The two that are absolute
Gorilla permits. A limited number of people may visit each habituated family each day, and the cap exists for the animals rather than for pricing. It is allocated centrally, booked against passport details, and in peak season it is gone months ahead.
The practical consequence is an ordering rule that feels backwards: permits, then lodges, then international flights. A permit cannot be moved to suit a flight. A flight can nearly always be moved to suit a permit.
The passport name. The name on the ticket must match the document you actually carry on the day. There is no bridge, a marriage certificate does not help, and an airline is under no obligation to reissue.
Every other item on this page has a recovery path at a price. This one has none.
The ones that feel fixed and are not
- Flight prices. They move, sometimes sharply, but a seat exists until it does not. This is money, not availability.
- "You must book twelve months ahead." True for peak-season small camps, false as a general rule. Plenty of excellent trips are built at three months.
- Itinerary sign-off dates. A specialist will hold a draft for as long as you need. What expires is the availability inside it, and they will tell you which parts.
What this is for
Not to make you relax about everything. To let you be genuinely relaxed about most of it, and properly serious about two things.
Couples who treat every deadline as equally urgent tend to rush the decisions that deserve thought and miss the two that do not forgive.
